O.k. Nothing too exciting to report I'm afraid:(
We have been eating out a lot and going to the gym - yes the gym!
We both go and it's GREAT. We are members of a tiny gym in the famous Fairmont Hotel in Nob Hill. (funny enough, the gym is across the hall from the Tonga Room which is the bar with the indoor thunderstorms)
Work has been very busy for both of us lately, so not too much time for galavanting, but we get out when we can.

We did go to this awesomly quirky little place called Nick's Crispy Tacos - it's like a semi-ghetto taco stand by day and nightclub by night. No joke! They had the yummiest chips and salsa and they sold Coke bottles from Mexico. It's a nightclub, so you can take your food to the bar or one of the velvet covered booths! They were playing 90's rock music, which was GREAT, but then behind the bar they were getting for the nightclub switchover. The place was very busy with an eclectic mix of people. MMMMMMMMMM was it good though!!!
Then, as if we needed more food, we went to Swensens Ice Cream Parlor for sundaes...
We watched the Superbowl at home with a fantastic spread of goodies in front of our widescreen flat TV. MMMMMMM Trader Joes bagel chips and cilantro/pecan dip.
We have been to a few happy hours, a very nice Mexican Restaurant called Maya and spent a rainy afternoon at the Farmers Market in the Ferry Building.
Sunday we went for a walk when the sun made an unusual appearance, and ended up right in the middle of a Chinese New Year street fair. It was horrendously crowded and smelled like fish in some parts, but we got some goodies!
We bought TONS of goodies that we will be sending home, so be on the lookout for mail :)
Let's see... what else? This weekend we are taking our first weekend trip out to San Jose and plan to go to a winery, the Winchester House and maybe the Tech Museum.
More to come on that later.
We miss you guys!!!
Things I've Learned in CA
- The apples here are HUGE - I can't find any small, one person sized apples anywhere
- Their deli meat and cheese comes pre-sliced - even when you go up the counter and ask for something, they take it from a stack of presliced yuckiness - it disturbs me.
- Everything is recylable and organic - even beer!
- It rains in San Francisco, every day - well, almost every day
- Some of the homeless people pretend to be crazy and think it's funny (I suppose they are bored)
- You have to hold on for your life on the buses and be prepared to be squished
- The bus is always full after the Chinatown stop and always empty again after Market Street
- Tourists wait for the cable car at the turn around spot - locals pick it up at the stops up and town the street
- It is hard to walk DOWN the hills in SF in heels
- It is remarkably easy to walk UP the hills in heels, in fact, it is easier than in sneakers!!
- People here are nicer than in NY (like strangers in the stores and things)
- It costs about $10 in the cab to go just about anywhere
- The garbage men come early and are LOUD!!!
